A pushup seems about as simple as it gets, right? It’s exactly what it sounds like, and it requires no equipment. But a lot of people, myself included, have been surprised in the past to learn that they’d been doing them wrong!
We probably make this mistake because of how simple pushups are. We don’t feel like we need anybody to show us the ropes because it’s a freakin’ pushup. Of course we know how to do it. But if you don’t hold yourself right while exercising, you’re not only putting unnecessary strain on yourself, but you’re not building as much muscle as you could, either.
Next time you’re doing pushups, remember to imagine a broomstick laid across your back, which should be able to rest along your butt, your spine, and your neck. If one of these, especially your neck, is too low or too high, get it back into line.
